Inside Duality: The SPACEWORKERS' Journey and the Impact of AI on Architecture

In the last episode of our podcast, we had the privilege of talking with the architects Rui Dinis and Henrique Marques, founders of Spaceworkers®. In a dialogue that crossed technique with emotion, we explored the path of an atelier that, since 2007, combines bold architecture with strategic management to transform challenging concepts into feasible and real projects, the main challenges faced and the way in which current topics, such as artificial intelligence, are inserted in its architectural practice. More than building buildings, the duo revealed how their common trait has been, from the beginning, absolute clarity about what not they wanted to do it, focusing on solving people's real problems through architecture. A vision that began immediately with the decision to open the studio after college and that held firm even in the moments of financial instability that almost jeopardized its continuity.

In this conversation, we understand that an iconic project is born from the ability to understand customers. For Spaceworkers®, nurturing a relationship of trust with the client is the foundation for understanding their experiences and translating them into an architecture that makes sense. Rui argues that the architect must be “another element of the family” during the process, immersing himself in the habits of those who will inhabit the space to be able to design not for themselves, but for the vision and identity of those people. Small everyday details, such as the comfort at the dinner table or the sound environment of a space, become vital clues for an informed and deeply personalized design.

We also discussed the importance of timelessness in architecture. In a world of fleeting trends, the atelier's philosophy is clear, to avoid trends to ensure that a project can cross time with the same relevance with which it was created. For the founders, each project is an opportunity for excellence, where sensory simplicity meets creative vision.

Finally, we looked to the future and to the role of technology. Artificial Intelligence and digital tools are now emerging as indispensable allies, not to replace human intuition, but to optimize production processes, enhance innovation and “make architecture more accessible”, according to Henrique. With AI accelerating the production of virtual images and technical effectiveness, the architect gains space to focus on what is truly essential: the creation of spaces that, between concrete and light, can transform houses into spaces with identity.
